2013 is proving to be a powerful year in music. It’s only January and we have already heard new singles from Justin Timberlake, Destiny’s Child, Karl Bartos and David Bowie. Can it get any better? Yes. Nothing makes me more happy than to know Depeche Mode will return with a new album and tour. Delta Machine will be the band’s 13th studio album and is said to be both modern and organic according to The Guardian. Heaven, the first single and video will be available the first week in February. A world tour will follow in May and I am eagerly waiting for tickets to go on pre-sale. Have you ever seen Dave Gahan dance? This is going to be a dream come true.
If you have been following this blog (or know me at all) then you know this is fantastic news for me. I fell in love with Depeche Mode when I was 16 years old and heard Enjoy the Silence for the first time. I am obsessed with Dave Gahan’s baritone voice which blends perfectly with keyboardist Martin Gore. I have yet to hear a Depeche Mode song that I didn’t like. Martin Gore’s storytelling lyrics paint a beautiful work of art over flawless production. I am certain Delta Machine will satisfy our hunger for more.
It has been four years since we last saw the band together. Since their last album, Sounds of the Universe frontman Dave Gahan landed his vocals and writing skills to the 2012 Soulsavers album The Light the Dead See. Stripped of the synthesizer Dave Gahan delivered a breathtaking performance showcasing a vocal style Depeche Mode fans have never heard. If that is a taste of what is to come – I’m ready.
Take a look inside the making of Delta Machine here. The new album will be available March 25.
