What is the best gift for a Dad? Booze and music. It’s a quick and easy gift that is guaranteed to make Daddy smile. This Father’s Day get your Dad something he will really enjoy — a break. If you’re my age your Dad is probably getting a little older but still working just as hard. He is most likely waking up at the same time he did when you were a kid, going to the same job and complaining about the same work problems. Now that you’re older you can understand why a beer or cocktail is more satisfying after a long hard work week. However, don’t just get him a bottle and an iTunes gift card. Be creative about it and create a new hobby for your Dad. Use this Now Streaming Father’s Day Beer and Music Guide to create the ultimate gift for the hard working dad in your life.

Teach A Man to Brew, He Drinks For Life

Show Dad that he can create his own magic brew at home with Brooklyn Brew Shop’s Beer Making Book: 52 Seasonal Recipes for Small Batches. Authors Erica Shea and Stephen Yaland will show Dad that brewing from home is as easy as driving to the liquor store. Critics praise their easy to read style and Dad will enjoy making his own beer for you and his friends. The book is divided by season and may teach you and Dad something new in the vast world of beer.

Father-Son or Father-Daughter Night Out

If your Dad is not the DIY type consider taking him out to a beer bar. There is nothing more special than sharing a mature drink with your Dad. You can talk about work, life or just laugh at old times. Most Dads hate the idea of going beyond their usual brewing company, but on Father’s Day he will enjoy taking lessons from his little guy or girl. Expand his palate by showing him the joy in local breweries and tasty craft beers. He may enjoy it so much that it becomes a new bonding ritual.

DJ For a Day

Bonding over music is a great way to connect with anyone, especially a parent. Since Dad is discovering new ways to enjoy his spirits consider making a playlist that will expand his musical taste buds. My Dad grew up in a time when soul music was at the top of its game. I wouldn’t know anything about The Ohio Players or Earth, Wind & Fire if it weren’t for my old man. Your Dad probably says things like, “music is not the way it use to be,” as if good music has died. While contemporary radio has surely died, good music lives on!

David Byrne & St. Vincent

If your Dad grew up listening to the Talking Heads he will appreciate the fact that David Byrne has not given up on music yet. Teaming up with St. Vincent, Byrne released one of the best albums of 2012 and is still touring the country. If you catch a live show you can guarantee that he will play a few classic tunes from Dad’s past.

Umphrey’s McGee

Perhaps your Dad was once a long hair, barefoot, peace and love kind of guy. He will be happy to know that the music never stopped. While there are thousands of Grateful Dead cover bands, there are even more bands who have created a jam sound of their own. During the late 90s Chicago band Umphrey’s McGee emerged on the jam band scene with a style inspired by classic rock n roll. Dad will enjoy the long jam breaks between lyrics and the sweet combination of the organ and guitar.

Trombone Shorty

For the soulful Dad it doesn’t get any better than Trombone Shorty. Hailing from the musical city of New Orleans, Trombone Shorty and his fantastic band will make your Dad show you his soul clap. I recently worked artist hospitality at an event Trombone Shorty played and he was incredible. He played a set of his own tunes as well as a few classics including a gospel inspired version of Ray Charles’ “I Got A Woman.”

Cheers Dads! Thanks for everything!
